Benzie Bike Club Organization |
Interested members of the BBC have met to discuss the general expectations of our club. Some basic assumptions were expected from the beginning. There are no dues, no membership restrictions, and rides will be geared so that all skill and interest levels can be accommodated.
The general purposes of this group are to enjoy being with friends, new and old, and to encourage good healthy exercise.
Expectations:
- Use the website and email to communicate outing details (when weather is “iffy,” need to check right before outing)
- Everyone who participates in the club is expected to plan or assist with planning 2 outings per year
- Outing leaders: plan the outing, announce the start time, and make sure everyone who participates is accounted for at the end of the outing (so if you plan to leave early, please let the leader know so he/she is not out searching ditches for your injured body).
- Meal planning is at the discretion of the leader be it restaurant or home or tailgating in a parking lot – totally optional, but fun.
- Outing start times need to be ABSOLUTE—be there ready to ride, ski, walk, or whatever.
Recommendations:
- Carry a cell phone and bring list of cell phone numbers from member list (If you have not done so, send your number to Al so that it will be listed.)
- Wear a helmet when riding—this is only sensible!
- Watch out for each other—we are all friends!

- We don’t object to using the email list to communicate to the club community-based items of interest (please, nothing political, religious, etc.) -- if you are personally not interested, simply delete the email. This will save us from having to use outing time for “announcements” of various sorts.
- The group has an interest in planning one benefit outing per year—could be something that is advertised in biking publications such that out-of-areas folks may choose to participate. NEEDED: small group to organize this and to choose the cause to be benefited. Any takers?
- Other recreational activities can be announced on the website, e.g. weekly kayaking outings, weekly evening “Scoop Rides” (ask Scholls or Cophers about this or wait for the announcements), etc.
- Questions, concerns, etc. should be raised via email to everyone—if you have something, contact Jerry Heiman who will send an email to the whole group for a “virtual discussion.”
